Summer Bodies: Five Perspectives
This captivating exhibition brings together the vibrant work of five local women artists, each offering a distinct voice and vision. Representing a rich tapestry of genres and cultural backgrounds, their art forms a harmonious dialogue that elevates and redefines the narrative surrounding the female experience.
This raises a provocative question: "Is art inherently gendered?" Are artistic expressions between male and female creators fundamentally different? Can we discern the gender of an artist simply by viewing their art? Does the gender of the artist impact its value?
In current U.S. museum collections, a staggering 87% of represented artists are male, and women artists earn only 66 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts. These figures starkly mirror the gender disparities present in society at large.
"Summer Bodies: Five Perspectives" celebrates the transformative power of female collaboration and highlights the profound impact of women’s contributions to the art world. Through their collective lens, this exhibition underscores both the richness and necessity of diverse female voices in the arts.
